Alaa Murabit, one of 17 Global Sustainable Development Goal Advocates and a U.N. High-Level Commissioner on Health Employment & Economic Growth, believes that the diversity and speed of Shenzhen can contribute to the creation of ideas.
Before coming to Shenzhen, Murabit had already heard about Shenzhen speed. What has impressed her is the natural environment, diversity of the people and the energy in Shenzhen. She believes that it is the diversity of Shenzhen that makes it stand out. According to Murabit, Shenzhen keeps solving different problems through innovation and diversity in a sustainable way. This is why Shenzhen is suitable for hosting UNLEASH 2019.
“What makes Shenzhen different is that it has such a large population and such diversity. It is able to create and innovate with all of that. That has been incredibly important for something like UNLEASH,” said Murabit during an exclusive interview with the Shenzhen Daily on Thursday.
Murabit has very high expectations for UNLEASH 2019 in Shenzhen, and she expects that the number of solutions can be doubled in Shenzhen when compared to the past two UNLEASH events and that Shenzhen can solve all of the problems on the 2030 agenda.
Murabit also attaches great significance to gender equality.
“We can talk about women’s political representation, economic participation and those are all incredibly important things. But if women aren’t there from the agenda setting phase and ideation phase, then their contributions are not heard on the same level. UNLEASH has been really institutionalized, saying women will be there at the very beginning, everyone is equal and everyone is a team player.”
