SIGNS that read "Firefighters First" have recently appeared at Shenzhen International Airport, ports, bus stations, major hospitals and other public facilities in the city, sznews.com reported Friday.
After the restructuring of the fire brigade, firefighters in Shenzhen continue to enjoy priority status in public transportation and medical treatment as mandated by the law, said the report.
This year, the fire brigade has been transferred from the Ministry of Public Security to the Ministry of Emergency Management, and firefighters are no longer considered "servicemen."
Nevertheless, they still enjoy favorable treatment at the airport, ports and hospitals, according to the plan issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council.
The institutional reform has changed the status of firefighters, but their duties and missions remain unchanged, said a person in charge of the Shenzhen Fire Brigade. The brigade will continue to promote the implementation of relevant policies in Shenzhen during the reform period and enhance firefighters' sense of honor, pride and social identity.
