Flights, trains canceled


SHENZHEN North Railway Station canceled eight trains including D2282 and D3126 to Nanjing, D2286, D2284, D2288 and D3108 to Shanghai, D3112 to Hangzhou and D2294 to Wenzhou today due to Typhoon Maria, which was expected to make landfall along the coast between Fuqing in Fujian and Cangnan in Zhejiang today, according the train operator yesterday.

Shenzhen Airlines canceled six overnight flights at the Quanzhou airport yesterday and eight flights arriving at and leaving Fuzhou, Xiamen, Wenzhou and Taipei airports today because of Typhoon Maria.

The canceled flights include ZH9909 between Shenzhen and Wenzhou today.

China Southern Airlines canceled 12 flights to or from Taipei and Wenzhou airports after 2 p.m. yesterday. It also decided to cancel six flights at the Fuzhou airport and 20 flights at the Wenzhou airport today.

Fuzhou issued a notice yesterday to close schools until the end of the typhoon and canceled 32 flights that were to arrive at the airport after 5 p.m. yesterday. The cross-Straits ferry service between Pingtan and Taipei is also suspended today.

Some of the high-speed trains running in Fujian Province on July 11-12 have been suspended.

Schools and offices in Taiwan were closed, and 250 flights were canceled as Typhoon Maria churned toward Taiwan, bringing torrential rains and powerful winds.

Maria was 500 km east of the northeastern coastal town of Yilan, with gusts of up to 190 kilometers an hour, as of 10 a.m. yesterday, according to the Taiwan weather observatory.

Taiwanese authorities announced that offices and schools would close Tuesday afternoon in five cities, including Yilan, where strong waves have started to pound the shore.
