Railway project at airport area approved

CHINA Railway Corp. has approved the construction of Airport East Station on the Shenzhen-Maoming High-speed Railway to replace the originally planned Airport North Station.

At a meeting with local political advisers, the Shenzhen rail construction office said the change of location will lay the foundation for the city to build Airport East Station into a world-class transport hub integrating air and rail services. The office is also studying the feasibility and necessity of cargo service on high-speed trains in light of the advantageous location of Airport East Station.

At present, Airport East Station is positioned as a stop-over station with two platforms and four lines. In the future, the office will apply for approval to expand the size of the station, and improve its functions and availability as a destination for high-speed trains.

The plan was completed by the rail construction office and will be handed to the city government after being reviewed by related agencies.

The Shenzhen-Maoming high-speed rail line is a 387-km route linking Shenzhen North Railway Station and Maoming East Railway Station.

The Shenzhen-Maoming High-speed Railway is a major rail link in the Pearl River Delta region connecting Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Maoming. Work on the Jiangmen-Maoming section started in June 2014 and was completed this March. The section will be put into operation soon.

The 115.6-km Shenzhen-Jiangmen section, which is under construction, will pass under the Pearl River. It has six stations, including Xili Station and Airport East Station. It is expected to be completed in the middle of 2023.

A rail link connecting Airport East Station and Shenzhen North Railway Station will be built. Completion of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen section was delayed due to the complicated geographic conditions of the mouth of the Pearl River and its huge investment budgets.

According to the plan, Xili Station will have 11 platforms and 22 lines. It will be the origin station of the Shenzhen-Maoming High-speed Railway and the terminus of the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway. The Shenzhen-Huizhou intercity rail, as well as Metro lines 13, 15 and 29, will be connected to the station.

The city has also included a Metro line linking Airport North Station (T4 Terminal), with the eastern part of the city in its 2016-2035 Metro network plan.

Metro Line 33 will start from T4 and end in Huiyang, Huizhou City after passing Airport East, Shiyan, Longhua, Bantian, Lilang, Henggang, Dayun and Pingshan stations.

It will take 30 minutes to go from Dayun in Longgang to T4, and it will take about 40 minutes from Longgang CBD to T4 in the future.
