Forum promotes traditional culture, art


A HANDFUL of experts from cultural and art fields gave speeches and joined discussions at the 2nd Forum on Inheritance and Development of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture and Art that opened Saturday.

The forum was sponsored by the Chinese National Academy of Arts and Shenzhen Press Group. The Shenzhen International Cultural Industries Fair Co. Ltd. and Tencent jointly organized the forum.

As an important event on the agenda of the 14th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), this year's forum focused on the innovative transformation of excellent traditional Chinese culture and art as well as the use of digital technology to inherit and develop such culture.

President of Shenzhen Press Group Chen Yin said that the forum would serve as a platform for promoting the inheritance and development of excellent traditional Chinese culture and art.

"We hope all of the forum attendees see the forum as a platform to contribute their wisdom and thoughts on promoting traditional culture and art," said Chen during the opening ceremony Saturday.

Director of the Chinese National Academy of Arts Lian Ji said the academy expects more in-depth and high-end cooperation with Shenzhen in fields like academic research, cultivation of talents and protection of intangible cultural heritage.

Ou Jianping, one of the guest speakers and also head of and a researcher from the Dance Research Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, suggested that artists promote traditional Chinese culture on both domestic and global stages.

In his speech, Ou used the achievements of Lin Hwai-min, a Taiwanese pioneer of contemporary dance, to illustrate the importance of promoting traditional culture by embedding Chinese elements into modern art.

Lin has been contributing his part by composing and performing top-class contemporary dance by weaving in elements of traditional Chinese culture, which has won him a reputation all around the globe.

Other guests, including director of the academy's Film and Television Art Research Institute Ding Yaping and deputy general manager from Tencent Chen Qian, advised using modern technology like intelligent digital technology in promoting traditional culture.
