TRAVELERS from Shenzhen may be able to take high-speed trains to Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Zhanjiang in southwestern Guangdong starting in July, when the new operation schedule takes effect.
The China Railway Corp. is working on a national high-speed train operation schedule and it will include the schedule from Shenzhen to Guangdong's southwestern cities after the Jiangmen-Zhanjian high-speed railway is put into operation, DT News, a news app of the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, reported yesterday.
The Jiangmen-Maoming section of the Jiangmen-Zhanjiang high-speed rail line was put on a test run in April. The Jiangmen-Zhanjiang high-speed rail line links Xinhui Station of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway in the east with Zhanjiang West Station in the west. It has 13 stations, including Jiangmen, Taishan, Enping, Yangdong, Yangjiang, Dianbai, Maoming, Wuchuan and Zhanjiang West stations. The trip from Guangzhou to Zhanjiang will be cut to three hours from the present eight hours.
A schedule circulating online shows that a pair of trains would be operated between Shenzhen and Zhanjiang when the Jiangmen-Zhanjiang high-speed railway opens as expected June 28.
The schedule shows 14 pairs of trains will go between Zhanjiang West Station and Foshan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The train D7554/1 from Shenzhen will operate every Thursday and Friday and the train D7752/3 from Zhanjiang to Shenzhen will operate every Tuesday and Thursday.
Additionally, the railway bureau in Shanghai will operate a pair of trains, D931/4 and D933/2, between Shanghai and Zhanjiang. It will share the route between Shenzhen and Zhanjiang.
Shenzhen North Railway Station said the operation schedule needs approval from higher authorities.
The Jiangmen-Zhanjiang section of the Shenzhen-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway runs 495 kilometers.
It consists of the Shenzhen-Maoming and the Maoming-Zhanjiang sections. Construction of the Shenzhen-Maoming section has been undertaken in two phases. The Jiangmen-Maoming section will be put into operation at the end of June, while the construction of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen section is still under way.
Jiangmen Station is expected to be the fourth-largest railway hub in the province, following Guangzhou South Station, Shenzhen North Station and Foshan West Station. It will be an interchange station of the Shenzhen-Zhanjiang railway, the Guangzhou-Zhuhai railway, the Guangzhou-Zhujiang intercity rail and the Guangzhou-Foshan-Jiangmen-Zhuhai intercity railway.
