IT summit to be held this month

THE 2018 China (Shenzhen) IT Summit will be held from March 24 to 25 at the Wuzhou Guest House in Futian District, according to a press conference Friday.

The summit has been held in Shenzhen annually since 2009. This year's summit will highlight the trending topics in the IT industry, such as artificial intelligence, digital medical care, FinTech and future communications.

Over 100 academics, investors and leading IT entrepreneurs in China, such as Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba, and Pony Ma, founder of Tencent, will attend the summit.

According to Liang Yongsheng, director of the city's technological innovation commission, the theme of this year's IT summit is "New Era: Digital China and Future World." He said two high-end dialogues and five forums will be held during the summit, while Pony Ma will give a keynote speech this year.

Liang said one of the high-end dialogues is named "BAT vs. TMD," with BAT standing for Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent, and TMD being short for Toutiao, Meituan and Didi. Executives from the six companies will attend the dialogue to discuss new business models and investment opportunities following the development of the digital economy.

"The overall spending on research and development in Shenzhen was above 90 billion yuan (US$14.17 billion) last year, equaling 4.13 percent of the city's GDP, which shows the innovative capacity of Shenzhen," said Gao Zimin, vice mayor of Shenzhen.

Gao said the IT summit, which offers an opportunity for top-notch IT entrepreneurs in China to exchange their thoughts, will bring new ideas to the IT industry, as well as promote the development of digital economy and sharing economy in Shenzhen.

Residents can visit the summit's official WeChat account, "ITSUMMIT," for more detailed information and to sign up to attend.
