A CEREMONY will be held at Silian Station of Metro Line 14 in Longgang District today to mark the commencement of construction on five Metro lines - 12, 13, 14 and 16, as well as the spur line of Line 6 - in Phase IV of the city's rail network plan.
The five lines will bring the total length of the city's Metro rail to 586 kilometers upon completion in 2022.
The five lines will run a total of 148.9 kilometers and cost a combined 134.45 billion yuan (US$19.80 billion) to build.
The 6.4-km Line 6 spur line runs across Guangming New Area, starting at Cuihu Station and ending on Gongchang Road at the border of Guangming and Dongguan City. It will be connected with Dongguan's Line 1.
Metro Line 12 will be a south-north rail line linking Nanshan and Bao'an districts. The 40-km line will start from Chiwan in Shekou and end at Waterland Resort in Bao'an District. It will have 33 stations including 18 interchange stations with other Metro lines.
The 23-km Line 13 will start from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint and run northward covering Nanshan, Bao'an and Guangming. In the future, it will be further extended to Songshan Lake in Dongguan.
The 51.9-km Line 14 will start from Gangxia North Station and end at the Shenzhen border with Huizhou in Pingshan District.
Metro Line 16 will start from Universiade Station in Longgang District and end at Tiantou Station in Pingshan District. It will run 27.6 kilometers.
"The commencement of the five lines brings the total number of Metro line projects, including the projects of Phase III under construction in the city in 2018 to 14," said Hu Ying, general manager with the Comprehensive Management Center of Shenzhen Metro Group Construction Headquarters.
At present, the construction of lines 6, 8 and 10 and the extensions of lines 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9 are going smoothly, Hu said.
The city has invested 22.6 billion yuan in Metro projects this year.
Shenzhen plans to have a Metro network of 32 lines that runs more than 1,142 kilometers by the end of 2030, including eight express lines.
The express lines will connect remote areas of Shenzhen, as well as Huiyang District in Huizhou, with the city's CBD.
