SHENZHEN Municipal Public Works Bureau has released the blueprint for Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen. Construction of the campus will start in 2018 in two phases, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
The Sun Yat-sen University was established in Guangzhou in 1924. The university inked deals with the Shenzhen city government to set up a Shenzhen campus in 2015.
The campus will be located in Guangming New Area and cover an area of 314.3 hectares. The Shenzhen campus plans to enroll over 20,000 students in the future.
The first phase of construction will start in 2018 and is expected to be finished by 2021, with plans to build infrastructure for medicine, engineering, science and arts faculties.
According to the bureau, the design of the Shenzhen campus was inspired by a traditional Chinese tale about how the phoenix, a lucky animal in China, breeds its nine children in a stable and prosperous environment.
Located near Zhupo Hill in Guangming, the campus will be designed and built in a shape that resembles a phoenix with long and furry wings.
Overlooking the blueprint of the campus, one will find it looks like a phoenix with an international academic exchange center, library, teaching buildings and a student service center as the phoenix's body and the canteens along with the faculty buildings as the phoenix's wings.
The landmark architecture of the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou will also be recreated on the Shenzhen campus, including the statute of Sun Yat-sen and the traditional archways.
The blueprint also features some recreational spaces, including a sports room, coffee shop and book store.
