THEMED "Silk Road City, Win-win Cooperation," the first "Belt and Road" Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, which was held at Wuzhou Guest House on Friday, was aimed at constructing a regular economic and trade cooperation platform for Shenzhen and core cities along the route of the Belt and Road Initiative.
In the one-day conference, over 280 distinguished guests from home and abroad discussed the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative in the fields of international economic and trade cooperation, the development and cooperation of cities, international finance and innovation in technology.
Chen Biao, a senior Party official with the city government, said in his welcoming speech that Shenzhen will make full use of its advantages in terms of geographical location, industry, capital and opening up in the Belt and Road Initiative, leading enterprises to go global, deepening the capacity for cooperation and optimizing the industrial structure so as to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.
Sun Zhenyu, president of the China Society for World Trade Organization Studies, said: "We have accumulated rich experience in the construction of the special economic zone. We should promote the Shenzhen model."
According to statistics, Shenzhen enterprises invested US$1.518 billion in countries along the Belt and Road route in 2016, an increase of 10 percent year on year, accounting for 14.1 percent of the city's total foreign investment. With regard to foreign contracted projects, countries along the Belt and Road route make up an important engineering contract market for Shenzhen enterprises, with a completion total accounting for nearly 50 percent of the city's contracted projects.
