Alert for high temperature issued


THE maximum temperature could reach above 35 degrees Celsius in the next few days, according to the yellow heat alert issued by the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory on its official Weibo account Saturday, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, a maximum temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Shiyan base station as well as maximum temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius at several central and northern base stations. Residents are advised to take precautions against heat stroke and avoid staying outdoors for a long time.

In the past two weeks, power failures have affected thousands of citizens. In response, Chen Rugui, the acting mayor of Shenzhen, established a team to investigate the renovation of shanty towns, the environment of urban villages and urban electricity supply and safety Thursday.

In the investigation, Chen specifically asked for information about the renovation of substation equipment in urban villages and went to the city's power dispatching control center for a report on the city's power supply and safety.

The acting mayor requested that a thorough investigation be launched to inspect potential safety problems of power utilization in urban villages, the maintenance of electricity infrastructure be strengthened and power supply service improved. He furthered added that power supply departments should increase input for electricity infrastructure, implement a safety production responsibility system, enhance emergency management and provide a high-level power supply service.
