CONSTRUCTION started Tuesday on a 135-kilometer-long green track in Longhua District, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.
It was announced at a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning that the track will be connected to mountains and public parks in the district.
The district is abundant in ecological resources, including several mountains with forests and parks. Regarded as one of the major construction projects in the area with an estimated investment of 1 billion yuan (US$147.26 million), the track is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
Starting at the Longguan Freeway, the track extends 135 kilometers passing seven wild forest parks, 40 public urban parks and 14 reservoirs in the district.
The project includes landscaping, the construction of ecological corridors, the installation of fire equipment and power supplies in the forests.
Based on the landscape, there will be four different sections of the green track, catering to residents who live in different areas. The construction of three of the four sections has already started.
Meanwhile, Shenzhen plans to build 368 kilometers of hiking trails across the city and about 200 kilometers will be completed by the end of this year, according to earlier media reports.
The 368-kilometer hiking network consists of four major trails-the western trail, the middle trail, the eastern trail and the around-Dapeng-peninsula trail-which connect to 44 branch trails.
