THE Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail will be connected with the Wuhan-Guangzhou section in March, cutting the travel time between Shenzhen and Wuhan to less than four hours, according to a meeting of Shenzhen rail construction office.
Passengers from Shenzhen to Wuhan and Changsha will not need to transfer at Guangzhou South Railway Station. It will save time and money for passengers.
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail was opened Dec. 26 in time for the Spring Festival transport season.
The rail had helped greatly relieve traffic pressure during the Spring Festival by handling around 40,000 passengers a day in Shenzhen, according to Li Yiyou, deputy chief of the rail office.
The major project of Futian Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail had been completed, the meeting announced. It will be open at the end of 2013, according to Yu Shaoshui, general manager of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Passenger Transport Co.
The railway station, the only underground train station in a central business district on the mainland, is one of five stations on the line between Guangzhou and West Kowloon in Hong Kong. When it opens, passengers can take high-speed rail directly to the city?s central business district in Futian.
The construction of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail is among 86 key projects that Guangdong and Hong Kong are cooperating on for this year.
