The flame tower.
THE first phase of the flame tower of the 2011 Summer Universiade in Nanshan District has opened to the public and the city is now collecting opinions and suggestions for the second phase.
Located in Shenzhen Bay Park, the first phase features a square, a water pool, greenbelts, sculptures and chairs, said the city's public works bureau Tuesday.
A 285-meter-long sidewalk was also built in 15 days so that residents can get to the Spring Cocoon from Shenzhen Bay Park more easily.
The tower is a new landmark of Shenzhen. According to the plan, the second phase will include a lighting project, torch equipment installation, environment upgrading project, street sculpture gallery and flyover project.
An interactive system will be installed so that residents can control the lighting system and fountain by hands, while the lights on the tower will be changed according to the weather and temperature, the bureau said.
