Promises for well-being fulfilled

THE city government has delivered on 32 promises made last year to improve residents' well-being.

The promises covered employment, education, healthcare, public transport, culture and crime prevention.

The city government helped 46,000 jobless residents find jobs. A total of 469 free job fairs were held, providing almost 50,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, two job fairs were held for fresh college graduates, providing around 23,000 jobs, the paper said.

In addition, the city government raised funds through different channels to complete 10,000 government-subsidized apartments last year and started the construction of 76,000 affordable apartments.

An additional 14,200 school places were added last year for the city's nine-year compulsory education. Last year also saw 6,500 new high school places, the paper said.

The main education facilities at two new schools, Bao'an Senior Middle School and Henggang Senior Middle School, were completed.

The city government increased its spending to support the development of private schools.

Around 32.3 million residents saw a doctor at health centers in residential communities last year. Moreover, an online health record system was introduced at 24 hospitals.

Last year saw the completion and opening of five new Metro lines, which totaled 110 kilometers in length.

An additional 168 special lanes for buses were added to the city's roads.

To enrich residents' cultural life, the city government held a variety of cultural performances last year, including the second China Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition, which drew almost 70 pianists from 15 countries and regions.

In addition, new parks, such as Shenzhen Bay Park and Xiantong Sports Park, opened last year while more than 1,100 kilometers of hiking and cycling tracks were completed.

The number of serious violent crimes decreased by more than 26 percent year on year.
