A LEADING Chinese search engine, Baidu.com, has started the construction of its South China headquarters in Shenzhen.
Located in Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park in Nanshan District, the headquarters will be composed of two towers, covering an area of more than 220,000 square meters.
The two towers will also function as the company's international headquarters and research and development center which will feature a combination of modern and traditional Chinese architectural styles.
The headquarters is scheduled to be completed in 2015 and will be able to accommodate 10,000 employees, the paper said.
"Baidu will step up efforts to develop mobile Internet and seek to promote its brand globally. The headquarters will become the base camp for the company's research and development and a platform for its international development," said Li Yanhong, Baidu's CEO.
"With Shenzhen's advantages in human resources and location, Baidu will strive to help more Internet users acquire information," said Li.
Analysts said Baidu's research and development center in Shenzhen will team up with its research and development centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo to carry out the company's strategy of developing Cloud-computing technology.
Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin said the construction would be conducive to the development of the city's Internet industry.
Before Baidu, Alibaba, a leading B2B e-business company in China, based its international operation headquarters and research and development center of commercial Cloud-computing in Shenzhen.
