FINISHING touches have been applied to the roof of the main structure of a geological museum in the Dapeng Peninsula National Geological Park.
Covering an area of 150 square kilometers, the park neighbors Diefu Village in the west and Gaoshanjiao in the east.
The completion was five days ahead of schedule, according to the city's public works bureau.
The museum has a floor area of 5,410 square meters over two floors with an exhibition area, an exhibit storeroom, a multi-function display area, an information center and a conference room.
The first national geological park in the Pearl River Delta region, the park features volcanic remains dating back 135 million years and coastal landforms dating back 20,000 years. The park will be built in three phases with the first phase to be completed in July next year.
Besides the museum, the 200-million-yuan (US$29 million) first phase comprises 16 projects including a 12-kilometer hiking track with 10 viewing stands, six emergency shelters and police call booths, and seven environmentally friendly toilets.
The first phase also includes a 5.6-kilometer coastal promenade, a mangrove wetland conservation area and a science education base.
The park would provide a base for research into volcanic activity and coastal landforms in China's southeast in the late Jurassic period, the park management committee said.
