THE finishing touches were made to the 2011 Universiade International Media Center (MMC) on Friday, making it the first Universiade project to be completed.
Located in Longgang District and covering an area of 16,000 square meters, the five-story center cost more than 300 million yuan (US$46 million) and will be operated by Shenzhen Media Group.
The MMC is comprised of an International Broadcasting Center (IBC), a Main Press Center (MPC), an event information center, an emergency response command center and a comprehensive management center.
More than 3,000 journalists from around the world are expected to cover the event and no registration will be required for reporters, according to the Universiade organizing committee.
The news conference halls on the first and the third floors of the MMC can house a total of 1,200 journalists. The MMC also has four 200-square-meter and two 400-square-meter TV studios.
Started in November 2008, the MMC was completed ahead of schedule.
According to Liang Daoxing, deputy chief of the organizing committee, the Universiade torch relay will be held on the campuses of designated universities across the country.
Since the Beijing Olympics, the International Olympic Committee has required that all torch relays be conducted within the host countries.
The Asian Games in Guangzhou to be held in August recently unveiled its torch relay circuit, which covers only Guangdong Province.
