MORE than 366,000 passengers left Shenzhen for home yesterday, a new record since the start of the Spring Festival transport season Jan. 30.The figure was 11.8 percent more than Saturday. Of the total, 154,000 took trains, the city's festival transport office said.About 830,000 passengers left Guangdong by rail for home yesterday, with the peak period expected to last until Thursday.
To meet the expected surge of passengers during the week, Shenzhen Railway Station has devised an emergency plan by turning nearby schools into waiting halls when the number of passengers waiting in the square reaches more than 50,000. Shenzhen West Railway Station will close the square when the number of waiting passengers reaches 10,000-15,000. Guangzhou Railway Group on Friday ordered stations in Hunan to sell return tickets to Guangdong between Feb. 17-27.
Ferry services
Passengers leaving Shekou Ferry Terminal for the Hong Kong airport between Feb. 10 and 16 should allow at least three hours for the trip from Shekou to the airport. Between Feb. 14 and 16, the terminal will cancel the 8:15 a.m. ferry to Macao and the 9:45 a.m. ferry from Macao. During the holiday week (Feb. 13-19), the ferry fare to Zhuhai will be adjusted to 100 yuan (US$15) per adult. Children and elderly people are eligible for half-price tickets.
Express buses
Shenzhen Futian Transport Hub has stepped up departure times for express buses between Shenzhen and Guangzhou South Railway Station for passengers taking high-speed trains.
On Saturday, departure intervals at Futian Transport Hub were shortened to 30 minutes per bus from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Departures will be increased as necessary. It takes just two hours from the hub to Guangzhou South Railway Station. Luohu Bus Terminal added buses to Jiangmen and Kaiping at 30-minute intervals.
Airports
Shenzhen Airlines saw 7,000 passengers leave the city by 2:30 p.m. yesterday, 800 more than the previous day.
