THREE elite police officers in Shenzhen have been recommended to higher level authority as candidates for the Guangdong Top 10 Guards and Guangdong Top 5 Police Martyrs.
The officers include Ye Shaojun, Liang Haizhou, an officer at Fuqiang Police Station who has handled numerous homicides in 15 years, and Xiong Jie, a grass-roots policeman in Taoyuan Police Station, Nanshan District, who died on duty in February because of his heavy workload, a news conference at the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau was told yesterday.
In three years, Ye had broken a deadlock on 1,500 major crimes and located 1,600 suspects. He helped in the rescue of 100 hostages and retrieved 200 stolen vehicles, the release said.
Xiong worked overtime during the Spring Festival and died on duty. He helped workers get their wages back in Nanshan District after some factories closed and the owners fled.
The three officers were selected from the city's top 10 officers in a process that started at the beginning of August.
Selection at provincial level will be conducted through voting by police officers and public voting. The public can vote by logging onto the www.southcn.com. The deadline is by Dec. 13.
