Shenzhen is expanding the construction of sports facilities, promoting citizens' fitness activities and perfecting a public hygiene system to ensure citizens' health.

Sports and Fitness

Shenzhen is carrying out widespread, active public fitness programs. About 87 percent of its residents have body quality that reaches the nation's standard level. Shenzhen holds more than 1,600 sports and fitness activities every year, and 13.7 percent of adults take part in body-building activities three or more times a week.

Sports Venues

Shenzhen's sports venues cover an area of more than 12 million square meters and public fitness facilities cover nearly 4 million square meters.

Shenzhen Sports Center

Located in Futian District, the center covers 278,000 square meters. It includes the Shenzhen Gymnasium, which has 6,500 seats and a floor space of 21,200 square meters, the Shenzhen Stadium, which has 30,000 seats and a floor space of 411,690 square meters, and the Shenzhen Swimming and Diving Natatorium, which has more than 4,000 seats and a floor space of 54,300 square meters.

Luohu Gymnasium

Located in Luohu District, it has 3,000 seats and covers 12,502 square meters.

Bao'an Gymnasium

Located in the new center of Bao'an District, the gymnasium has 8,800 seats and a floor space of 47,400 square meters.

Longgang International Bicycle Velodrome

It is the country's first velodrome with wood tracks built in accordance with international standards and can hold track cycling, road cycling and mountain cycling at the same time.

Universiade Center

It is located in central Aoti New Town in Longgang District. Among the planned buildings are a stadium with 60,000 seats, a gymnasium with 18,000 seats, a swimming hall with 3,000 seats and subsidiary facilities including a plaza, an underground parking lot and a stadium for warm-up training. It will serve as the main competition venue for the 26th Summer Universiade in 2011.

Sports Center of Shenzhen University City

The center includes a stadium and two gymnasiums and is a landmark complex in the western campus of Shenzhen University City.

Shenzhen Bay Sports Center

Still under construction, the center will include a stadium, a gymnasium, a swimming hall, a sportsmen service center, a sports-themed park and facilities for commercial operation.

Pingshan Sports Center in Longgang District

It includes a stadium and a gymnasium. The gymnasium will be a competition venue for the 2011 Universiade and the stadium will serve as a training venue.

Futian District Sports Park

It covers more than 60,000 square meters and includes a stadium, a gymnasium, a standard athletic field with a 400-meter track and a standard football pitch. Its gymnasium will be the judo training and competition venue in the 2011 Universiade, and its stadium will host the football competitions during the Universiade.

Dameisha Gymnasium in Yantian District

Located in the northern coast of the Dameisha area, it has a floor space of 34,953 square meters and 4,000 seats. Construction began in 2007 and will conclude in 2010. It will be the venue for the volleyball competition during the 2011 Universiade.

Bao'an District Sports Center

It includes Bao'an Stadium and Bao'an Swimming Hall.

Shenzhen Offshore Sports Base & Sailing School

Located in Longgang District, it covers 87,000 square meters and has an offshore area of 96,000 square meters. It will be the main venue for the sailing competition during the 2011 Universiade. After that, it will be the teaching and training venue for the Sailing School.

Shenzhen Sports School

The school covers 150,825.29 square meters and has a floor space of 151,589.03 square meters. It will be part of the Universiade New Town and the competition and training venue for the 2011 Universiade. It can also be the training venue for the school's athletic students and hold regional competitions.

Training Base of Shenzhen Physical Culture and Sports Team

Located in Nigang Road West, it has a floor space of 26,670.40 square meters and includes training facilities -- handball training hall, athletic training hall, dancing hall and strength and physical fitness training center -- service facilities, classrooms and an outdoor hockey field.
