Shenzhen is a sub-provincial city. It has direct jurisdiction over six districts and two new zones - Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Yantian, Bao'an and Longgang districts and Guangming and Pingshan new zones. The special economic zone was approved by the Central Government to expand to cover the whole city from July 1, 2010.
