Major responsibilities:
1) to administrate local meteorological work on behalf of the municipal government; to direct the implementation of relevant national and provincial policies and measures;

2) to formulate local regulations on meteorological work in accordance with relevant laws and regulations;

3) to direct, coordinate, supervise and provide services for local meteorological industry; to direct the initial reviews for major meteorological projects, as well as large- and medium-sized meteorological equipment;

4) to publish local weather forecasts, warnings, and other meteorological information;

5) to direct local meteorological surveys, assessments and cause-analysis of weather disasters;

6) to provide centralized management of major meteorological equipment such as those for artificial weather manipulation and lightning disaster prevention; to direct and supervise the work of preventing lightning disasters; to provide testing and other technological services for local lightning prevention equipment through its affiliated unit -- Shenzhen Testing Office for Lightning Prevention Equipment;

7) to participate in analyzing and reviewing the meteorological conditions for key construction projects, major economic development projects and urban plans;

8) to undertake other assignments given by the municipal party committee and the municipal government.
