In 2008, Shenzhen's economy maintained a healthy development momentum. Its GDP grew by 12.1 percent to 780.654 billion yuan (US$114.8 billion), and the total retail sales of social consumer goods increased by 17.6 percent to 225.182 billion yuan. Foreign trade volume ranked first in China at US$299.955 billion, up 4.3 percent compared with the previous year.
