In 2006, the city's logistics industry grew rapidly, and had seen sustained expansion. That year, its output value totaled 137.403 billion yuan, an increase of 41.405 billion yuan over 2005. Shenzhen Port's cargo throughput reached 175.977 million tons, up 14.6 percent over 2005. Shenzhen Port has been ranking fourth for the past six consecutive years among the world's container ports in terms of container traffic volume. .

Logistics Firms
The city's modern logistics industry has taken a basic shape, with third- and fourth-party logistics firms as its main body. Shenzhen has over 2,000 firms dealing with logistics and cargo transportation business, among which modern logistics firms totaled more than 200. Third-party logistics firms with comprehensive logistics capacity have emerged. The world's Top 500 firms and world-famous enterprises, including Wal-Mart from the United States, Carrefour from France, B&Q from Britain, and China Resources from Hong Kong, have seen sound economic achievement in Shenzhen. The China headquarters and procurement center of Japan's Aeon are also located in Shenzhen.
Six Logistics Parks
The construction of the six major logistics parks in Shenzhen has proceeded smoothly with a total planned area of 22.48 square kilometers. With an investment of 7.1 billion yuan, a project bank for logistics park development has been developed, with 19 major projects. Among them, the supply centers of B&Q and China Resources Vanguard have started operation, while other major logistics projects such as South China International Industrial Materials City and Shenzhen Customs Post Express Supervision Center are under construction. The city's key logistics parks include the Yantian Logistics Park, Qianhaiwan Logistics Park, Airport Logistics Park, Pinghu Logistics Park, Sungang-Qingshuihe Logistics Park, and Longhua Logistics Park.
Cargo Transportation Agent Service
The city's cargo transportation agent service is currently China's most mature international logistics business. Shenzhen now has more than 1,300 cargo transportation agent companies, privately owned or jointly invested. Four local companies, China Trans International Ltd., Hercules Logistics, Shenzhen Senbang International Freight Co., and Tri-link Logistics Ltd, are among the world's top 100 cargo transportation agent companies.
Prospects for Logistics Industry
According to the No. 1 document issued by the Shenzhen Municipal Government in 2007, the modern logistics industry is listed as the city's top service industry. During the period of the 11th five-year program, the city is planning to invest 103 billion yuan in logistics facilities and related infrastructure to realize 82.2 billion yuan in added value annually. |
